The following page is dedicated to Peter's activities - not including renovation which is elsewhere! Boating is now an "ex" activity but it is covered directly here - most everything else can be seen via the "WAB" link above -

 - but if you are staying, here are some pictures of Susie and sailing in Bowen waters!

The Round Bowen Yacht Race 2008 - Just before the start looking from Bowen towards the mainland, and secondly, about 10% of the way around looking towards Bowen. I could not find Susie for sure in any of the pictures of this race!

However here is the plot, in blue,
of our race. To give you an idea
of the scale,  from "HOMEBC"
to "SNUG 2" by fairly direct
road is 7 kilometers.

We started going southbound,
and the finish and start lines are
the same, so you might wonder
why there is a gap in the blue
trace.

Well we are one of the slower
boats so it naturally takes us
longer to get round, but if the
wind dies towards the end we
lose out big time.  Of course this
is what happened. and at the end
of the blue trace it was  obvious
we were not going to finish by
the 5 pm cut off, so I am afraid
we gave up.

Pity, because with a (really) good
wind the previous year we won
the no spinnaker class!

The following are all from one race in the Fall series.

Just before the start - Susie is the white hull                              Me concentrating on the stopwatch as the start approaches

Don and Nick looking at the photographer -

                                                                                                               Bill didn't make this race

A third of the way down the first leg - us on the right.

Further on, Passage Island in the near

background, Bowen behind

We don't have a spinnaker so we had no trouble here

Us just about to finish  - the mainland behind us

For a contrast, here is our previous boat 'Dragonfire' on her way to a fiercely fought second place (out of about 15 similar boats) in the Bronte Rocks (Lake Ontario) regatta in September 2005
